Auto Accidents
If you have been involved in an automobile accident or motorcycle accident that was caused by another driver’s negligence, you may file a claim against the negligent driver and his/her insurance company to recover damages. It is advisable for you to consult with an experienced accident lawyer before proceeding with a claim for negligence. Slive & Slive has handled hundreds of car accident cases. We will use our experience to help you through the entire process.
What to do after an auto accident:
- Make sure that the police, sheriff or highway patrol file a report for your accident.
- Obtain the name, address, insurance information, vehicle license number and driver's license number of every person involved in the accident.
- Get the names, addresses and telephone numbers of all witnesses, if any.
- Photograph the vehicles involved in the accident (before repair) and the scene of the accident from all relevant angles. Also, photograph any visible bodily injuries such as bruises, cuts and bleeding.
- Talk to no one about the accident or injuries other than your doctor or lawyer.
- Consult an attorney before signing anything ot talking to any individuals or insurance companies. Truthful statements made in an attempt to be helpful can easily be misinterpreted and turned against you.
- Obtain medical care promptly.
- Tell your doctor or the doctor at the ER exactly how the injury occurred and describe all symptoms and complaints.
- If additional symptoms appear in the days after your injury, seek care for these as well.
- Be sure to report memory problems, confusion or disorientation, however minor these things may seem at the time.
